When Twiglet was a pup, maintaining her nails was a straightforward task. I would hold her while a friend used regular human nail clippers to trim the tips of her tiny toenails. However, as she grew older, her nails became thicker and larger.
To ensure Twiglet never had overly long nails that couldn't be managed, I purchased a pair of dog nail clippers from a local pet store. These clippers were notably large. While exploring options online, I stumbled upon a set of much smaller clippers, reminiscent of children's scissors!
During the last couple of nail-trimming sessions, it has been just Twiglet and me. Evidently, Twiglet isn't fond of the 'sound' produced when clipping her nails. Frankly, the process has become significantly smoother with these smaller clippers, causing her minimal distress. I wholeheartedly recommend these compact clippers to fellow small dog owners. Their ergonomic design makes them easier to handle, and Twiglet is noticeably less bothered – it could also be attributed to the fact that it's now a one-person task.
Managing the larger clippers had become a challenging endeavour, as I aimed to avoid trimming too close and accidentally catching the sensitive quick. This ordeal was stressful for me and profoundly unpleasant for Twiglet. The transition to these smaller clippers has been transformative, enabling us to tackle this task together without requiring external assistance.
